lovers in medieval
times, she begins regaling him with tales, Scheherazade fashion,

Huon
of the Horn
Author: Andre Norton
This is
a rendering of one of
the more obscure offshoots of the legends
surrounding the mythical King, Charlemagne; not the Charlemagne of history, but
a different, more romantic person. The book
concerns the son of one
of the Companions of Charlemagne, one Huon, who encounters
magic, evil foes, chivalric episodes and the King of
Fairies, Oberon himself. A great
read for pre-teens, teens and a nostalgic
plunge for older readers.

history to save the spiritual life of Britain. If you can

you'll enjoy this. Even if you can't, as I could not, you
might still enjoy it.. I did. NH |

Alternate History
The alternate history novel asks the
question, "What if this thing had not happened or this
other one did?" For example, An Involuntary King
asks, "What if there had been a Saxon octarchy
instead of a heptarchy?" (Yeah, i know, you
ask yourself that everyday!) Ruled Britannia ask,
"What if the Spanish Armada had won?" |

Then
and Now Investigations
Was Marlowe a spy who faked his own death?
Was Vlad the Impaler really such a bad guy? Who really
killed the Little Princes in the Tower? And what about
those pesky Knights Templar? Inquiring minds want to
know.. or at least read novels about it. |
The
Charlemagne Pursuit
Steve Berry
Berry outdoes himself in his latest Cotton Malone adventure
(after The Venetian Betrayal). Using his connections in the
federal government, Cotton asks to see a classified file that
details the mission that resulted in his father's death. He knew
his father died on a submarine but none of the shocking details
about where or why he died. But Cotton is not the only person
who wants this file, and they kill to get it. Nazi missions to
the Antarctic, ancient societies, and a valuable artifact from
Charlemagne's tomb all play key roles as Malone uncovers the
truth. So much is going on that there is enough material for two
good books, let alone one great one. Mixed in with the
complicated action, Berry finds the time to explore the
characters as well, making this his most personal and best book
to date. |
